Trucking in the 80s was a rough and tumble boys-only industry that wasn't accustomed to women drivers. If a woman drove professionally, she usually partnered with her husband or boyfriend. Trucking companies were leery of hiring women, and women were often seen as far less than drivers. Patty Adams, an American female truck driver, began her truck driving career in 1985 at the age of 26. It was a time when female truckers were virtually unheard of. Although women weren't entirely welcomed in the world of trucking, Patty loved her job. She was determined to become a professional, solo female trucker and overcome every stereotype.
