Stella's story will be relevant to a lot of kids who are nervous and afraid to show their own scars. But this story is also full of hope and kindness through a genuine spirit of the emotions children often feel. This is a great read for adults who are looking to share with children new ways of looking at our stars and how to welcome a conversation with others with new language and empathy. - Rich Robles, VP & Chief Diversity Officer, Boston Children's Hospital
Stars on My Knees is heartwarming and sweet, full of positive messages of self-acceptance, friendship, empathy and the importance of celebrating our uniqueness as humans. It is a lovely portrayal of the insecurities so many children face and the power of compassion. Every school library, classroom and home should have this book available to honor, validate and normalize all the 'stars' we each carry that make us unique, special and resilient. I can't wait to share it with my own children, friends and clients. - Shawna Lauer, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Stella is going to have the best day ever: water day, gymnastics, and a sleepover with a new friend!
Although she's excited, Stella spends her time worrying that her friends will notice the scars on her knees until an empathetic friend helps her see her star-shaped scars in a new way - as something to celebrate and be proud of.
This interactive picture book is designed to get children involved with opportunities for discussion and active play that build confidence, understanding, curiosity, and empathy about the uniqueness of others.
