An American family destroyed in desolate Mexico when their father is hung and their mother is taken by militia leaving behind the nine year old son, Grayson, and the twelve year old daughter, Ada, to fend for themselves and make it out of the brutal terrain alive. This is the story of their incredible journeys of finding themselves as well as their family in Matador, Texas. As bizarre and macabre a tale as it is endearing and hilarious. This is the fourth novel from Country Noir author, JW Lollar who delivers rich characters and a bizarre tale of the wretches of mankind and human depravity to the hopelessness of being lost and alone. He writes with an enigmatic stream of consciousness prose woven through the blood red lament of unrelenting characters. The Kid, Grayson, seeks his place in a world so lost finding nothing but violence and depravity around every corner. The daughter, Ada, seeks love and protection and the mother they left behind. She lives with ghost and guilt and fear. What follows are a series of years passing and the misadventures and pain of two children forced to become survivalist alone in the void.
