Solace in Verse was penned by the author in the last few years after he retired and while living in Costa Blanca, Spain. The majority of Migel Jayasinghe's poems are his response to this new environment, while others hark back to his origins in Sri Lanka. A few touch on contemplative and philosophical themes. One critic commented that these pages reflect an imagination that is at times playful and at others serious, but always expressed with the utmost clarity and accuracy. Migel Jayasinghe grew up in British Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and was educated in English since the age of seven. At the age of 26, he left his position as a sub-inspector of police and emigrated to the United Kingdom. Eventually, he found his vocation as an occupational psychologist after acquiring two university degrees over a period of time. Since retirement, he has devoted himself to creative writing.
