The Great War was the beginning of the end for the class structure throughout Europe, England and Russia. What had been for centuries was now on its last leg. The urban workers became unemployed and hungry; the country people, at least, could grow their own food. The intellectual class was destroyed, as was the aristocracy, the large estates and propertied gentry. Land was split up and sold off since the owners were unable to pay the taxes. Many were taken by force with no recompense. A new society would emerge from the rubble, but it would soon face even more disruption and total collapse due to the failures of the Great War, which led to another more deadly and destructive conflict just a generation later. One that would change Europe forever and cost them the empires they had so painstakingly built.
