Scacciati dalla loro terra, i topi si rifugiano nelle fogne. Lì ricreano, pezzo dopo pezzo, una società che imita quella umana - con i suoi sogni, le sue contraddizioni e la sua stessa corruzione.
È in questo mondo sotterraneo che vive Rob, un giovane topo cresciuto vicino alla spiaggia, che trova la propria libertà surfando tra i canali delle fogne. Tra rivalità , amicizie e battaglie, la storia di Smelly Rob diventa una riflessione ironica e graffiante sul capitalismo, sulla perdita della natura e sulla ricerca di un posto a cui appartenere.
