Quite simply, the greatest story ever told. This is the first installment of an epic 13 part series. A young man comically stumbles his way through adulthood and on to the path to enlightenment and back. In Part 1, a young man finds himself in his hometown of Surrey, British Columbia saying goodbye to friends, dealing with his Punjabi upbringing and moving to Toronto for graduate studies in political science. He meets a cast of interesting characters at his residence, establishes strong bonds with his classmates but struggles to find his way. Add in a few romantic challenges, near constant drinking and an unusual number of references to the Chinese Year of the Goat and you have the recipe for sheer entertainment. Book Reviews This is the uniquest and funniest book that I have ever read. I don't know how he did it but the author simultaneously pulls of levity and depth. I can't wait for volume II!
- Rob Bagri, CEO of Beyond Nutrition A true masterpiece. As a musician, I loved the obscure references to a wide variety of artists, from GZA to Motley Crue. And I'm still working on discovering all the hidden references to the Nirvana album in the Chapter titled 'Nevermind.'
- D.J. Bisky, Paris If you've ever lived in the Vancouver or Toronto area, this book will definitely take you back and conjure up old memories. I've always felt that the aughts haven't been done justice in a coming of age type of story and wow does this novel deliver! I was laughing all the way through. Some of the funniest material you will ever come across. I was in stitches so often that my wife kicked me out of the bedroom multiple times. Spend the pocket change on this one, you won't be disappointed.
- Chris Murray, Unemployed Individual I started reading this book and I was disappointed at first. It jumped straight into dialogue in Punjabi (thankfully translated into English), flashbacks to the 80s and deep philosophical analysis of Buddhism. But I persisted and the payoff was immense. Chapter Two had the best few opening lines I had read in a while and the nonstop shenanigans will have you finishing this book in nearly one sitting! The ending is a bit abrupt but give it a shot folks!
- Mark Mikkan, IT Specialist Is this Atwal guy for real? A 13 volume series? I couldn't believe the gall of the author so I gave it a shot. I'm an English major and I can't say I have read writing like this before. It's almost conversational. I am going to re-read out of my own interest actually. There are all sorts of issues one can gripe about (grammar, prose, made up words) but one thing I will say is that you will fall in love with the protagonist. The arc on this story is mind blowing though. I hope the author can finish the series!
