Seven Hills Away is a novel by N.V.M. Gonzalez, a renowned Filipino author. The story is set in a rural town in the Philippines during the 1940s, just before the outbreak of World War II. The patriarch, Don Luis Lim, is a strict and traditional man who values family honor above all else. His daughter, Rosario, is a beautiful and intelligent young woman who falls in love with Tony Gonzales, the son of a poor tenant farmer on the Lim's plantation. The Gonzaleses are a hardworking and honest family who struggle to make ends meet. Tony is a kind and gentle young man who dreams of a better life for himself and his family. Despite the social and economic barriers between them, Tony and Rosario fall deeply in love. However, their happiness is short-lived when a tragic event tears the two families apart. The novel explores the themes of love, family, honor, and social class, as the characters struggle to come to terms with their past and find a way forward.Seven Hills Away is a beautifully written and poignant novel that captures the complexities of Filipino society during a tumultuous time in history.
