While falling victim to her father's alcoholic fury, Zoey Ringer struggles to survive an unsympathetic life. The loss of her abusive grandfather is the catalyst that sends an already collapsing family into despair. Fueled by alcohol, her father's beatings intensify, and the life Zoey can barely endure rapidly deteriorates. The complicated teenager withdraws behind her stoic veneer, convincing herself she has complete control. Amidst her crumbling life, a handsome, intriguing newcomer leaves her enthralled and overwhelmed. Zoey tries to resist her infatuation with The Newcomer, but her emotions do little to distract her from reality.

The spirited teenager tenaciously hides the beatings and her feelings for The Newcomer. As a senior in high school with bleak prospects, Zoey struggles to cope. Encapsulated in pain and paralyzing fear, Zoey watches as her mother suffers under the same angry fists. The escalating abuse leads to her mother's hospitalization. As her mother clings to life, a desperate Zoey realizes she must do something.

She must take control.

Finally embracing her infatuation, Zoey relies on The Newcomer to devise a plan. The Plan is dangerous for her, but no more so than the frightening circuit of her father's rage. Zoey's last battle may not only be with her father's hands, but with her own courage...if she can find it in time. Knowing that her daring plan can either liberate or kill her, Zoey grips the steering wheel and drives to reclaim the broken pieces of the family that her father destroyed.
