This book is about a detective who works homicide in Chicago. As we all know the rate of deaths in Chicago is higher that it has ever been, perhaps higher than anywhere else in the world. This detective is pretty burnt out on the job. He and his partner get put in charge of a murder scene at a restaurant where seventeen people were murdered. It is his job to find out why. He gets caught in the middle of a cartel battle trying to solve the case. The cartel tries to hunt him down and get him out of the way. His boss sends him away to a small island in the Caribbean until things cool down or the case is solved. On the island he meets a woman who is, at the very least, mysterious. He finds himself thinking about her all the time, at least when he is not trying to drink himself to death with island rum. What he finds when he starts searching for her and trying to get to know her, as far as he is concerned, is unbelievable. This is a story about redemption and how one man came out a better person after going through a disruptive time in his life.
