Salafire Finds Home

Part 2 of the Salafire series.

Salafire Finds Home is a children's picture book about, fire, different environments in nature, and how friends shine the brightest when they feel loved, accepted and safe. The original inspiration for both Salafire stories came from tale I told my own children about our heater, so they would keep their toys away from the fire. I told them that a fire creature would eat their toys if they left them too close. They laughed, of course, but that inspired me to write a story about the creature I later named Salafre. Avery, the other protagonist, was created to model important concepts of forgiveness, emotional regulation, and creativity to the young audience of this book, inspiring them to show the same type of friendship that Avery demonstrates towards those who are different in their lives.

Fairy tales and folklore were inspired by everyday things and often served as a way to make important concepts memorable and fun for children. And Salafire is a great example of a unique fairytale that teaches important social and emotional concepts in a fun way!
