Sacred Tensions is inspired by a world view that invites the dynamic and ever-present tensions that exist within the everyday, the global and cosmic, and connect the extremes of human emotion and experience. Confusion, joy, things left unsaid, things said and left unremembered, humor, desire, violence, authenticity, discomfort, and more, are expressed and critiqued within experimental and conventional forms, producing a social and emotional discourse of ambivalence and epiphany that is the shifting bedrock of the Trickster Discourse. The author, as parts mental health professional, scholar, writer, veteran, and Indigenous person, asks: where are you? without requiring an answer, only facilitating the un/comfortable realization of being lost or not found, for a moment. Often playing upon his developing theme of pilgrimage, journeying, seeking 'A Way', the poems and short stories are meant to position and challenge the mind and experience of the reader to face the zero-sum games that comprise our current world. Do we refuse the existential legitimacy of such games and invest in the dichotomous currencies of moral economy? Do we shift our feet and hearts towards a path that weaves in, out, and together, our Sacred Tensions?
