The Eliberitan Council, convened by bishops during the time of Constantine, addressed critical issues concerning the moral conduct of Christians, particularly in relation to idolatry and its repercussions on communion. The council decreed that individuals who sacrificed to idols after baptism, priests who engaged in such acts, and those who committed adultery would be barred from communion until they completed penance.
