The text (the Athanasian Creed) states that salvation depends on holding the catholic faith: worshiping one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, without confusing persons or dividing the substance. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct persons yet one Godhead, co-equal, co-eternal, uncreated, infinite, and almighty. The Son is begotten of the Father; the Spirit proceeds (from the Father, in some variants also from the Son). The creed also affirms the Incarnation: Christ is both fully God (begotten before all ages) and fully man (born of the Virgin Mary), one Person without confusion of natures, who suffered, rose, ascended, and will judge the living and the dead. Those who reject these truths cannot be saved.
