In 2014 one of the web's largest fitness & bodybuilding forums, a hub of lifting memes and training advice, was also home to an extensive and diverse network of independent steroid suppliers involved in the importation, 'brewing' and sale of illicit enhancement drugs to buyers from across the world. This book explores in detail the operation of this market, and motives of those who accessed and were involved in it, documenting every facet of the history of how this illicit market functioned, the reasons why it was accessed by steroid users and suppliers the world over, and why, ultimately, it collapsed into chaos and infighting.Drawing on an extensive qualitative dataset, this book offers unrivalled depth in its exploration of the online market for steroids found on lifting forums, and its personality-driven narrative and colourful cast of characters give depth to the human elements underlying this illegal trade. With steroid use becoming ever more prominent in society in recent years, this book offers important insight into how access and supply of these products occurs in online space, and the memorable individuals involved in this illicit trade.
