This is a verse translation of The Suppliant Maidens by Aeschylus, rendered into English by E.D.A. Morshead. One of the oldest surviving plays in the tragic canon, The Suppliant Maidens (also known as The Suppliants) tells the story of the Danaids, the fifty daughters of Danaus, who flee to Argos to escape marriage to their cousins, the sons of Aegyptus.
