A Study of Women Delinquents in New York State is a comprehensive analysis of the lives and behaviors of female delinquents in New York during the early 20th century. Written by Mabel Ruth Fernald in 1920, this book provides a detailed examination of the social and economic factors that contribute to female delinquency, as well as the challenges faced by women who have been incarcerated. Fernald's research draws on data collected from interviews with female inmates, as well as observations of their daily routines and interactions with other prisoners and staff. She explores the various types of crimes committed by women, including prostitution, theft, and murder, and examines the ways in which these crimes are often linked to poverty, lack of education, and other societal factors. In addition to analyzing the causes of female delinquency, Fernald also discusses the challenges faced by women who are incarcerated, including issues related to hygiene, health care, and rehabilitation. She advocates for more humane treatment of female prisoners and for the implementation of programs that address the root causes of their criminal behavior. Overall, A Study of Women Delinquents in New York State provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of female criminals during a time of significant social change in the United States. Fernald's research sheds light on the complex societal factors that contribute to delinquency and highlights the need for more compassionate and effective approaches to addressing these issues. With Statistical Chapter By Beardsley Ruml And Preface By Katharine Bement Davis. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
