Strictures On A Life Of William Wilberforce is a book written by Thomas Clarkson in 1838. The book is a critical analysis of the life and work of William Wilberforce, a British politician and philanthropist who was instrumental in the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire.Clarkson, who was a close friend and colleague of Wilberforce, offers a frank assessment of his achievements and shortcomings. He praises Wilberforce's tireless efforts to end the slave trade and his commitment to social justice, but also criticizes his political tactics and personal failings. The book provides a detailed account of Wilberforce's life, from his early years as a member of parliament to his later years as a leading advocate for the abolition of slavery. It also explores the social and political context of the time, including the opposition Wilberforce faced from pro-slavery interests and the broader struggle for civil rights and social justice.Overall, Strictures On A Life Of William Wilberforce is a valuable historical document that sheds light on the life and work of one of the most important figures in the fight against slavery and oppression. It offers a nuanced and balanced perspective on Wilberforce's legacy, and provides insights into the challenges and complexities of social and political reform in the early 19th century. With A Correspondence Between Lord Brougham And Mr. Clarkson, Also A Supplement, Containing Remarks On The Edinburgh Review Of Mr. Wilberforces Life, Etc.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
