Strange Bedfellows; My Crazy-Quilt Memoirs, Life-Maxims and What-Not is a whimsical and irreverent collection of personal reflections, humorous anecdotes, and idiosyncratic philosophies from the celebrated American humorist and illustrator Don Herold. Written with the sharp wit and distinctive charm that defined his prolific career, this work offers a crazy-quilt of observations on the absurdities of daily life, the peculiarities of human nature, and the often-contradictory maxims by which people attempt to live.
Herold expertly blends the autobiographical with the observational, presenting a series of short pieces that range from playful satire to genuine insight. The book captures the spirit of early 20th-century American humor, characterized by its brevity, visual imagination, and relatable skepticism toward modern conventions. Readers will find a delightful assortment of what-nots-those unclassifiable bits of wisdom and folly that make up a life. As both a memoir and a manual for navigating the world with a sense of humor, this volume remains a testament to Don Herold's unique voice and his ability to find comedy in the mundane. It stands as an engaging artifact of Depression-era wit and literary experimentation.
