Stories of the Great Within, the first work of fiction by award-winning photographer, teacher, and author William Quigley, is a powerful, lyrical, and moving collection of eighteen tales featuring a distinctive group of characters. Each is bound by the simple theme of living two lives: one in the singular interior realm of one's own heart and mind, and the other in the rich and chaotic outer world pulsing with a carnival of life. Within these stories we find those who long to transcend; to find the elusive tissue connecting oneself to others, even knowing that sometimes that thin line snaps, sending us fleeing back to our singular world.

These tales sweep us to the sun and sand of the Florida Keys and the mountains of North Carolina, from the gay dance clubs of Miami to the streets of suburban Ohio, and from the canals of Venice, Italy to a hopeless backwater town in Florida. And, to other places not named, but as familiar as your own.

Stories of the Great Within features unforgettable characters and their unique tales that speak of who they are, and perhaps along the way illuminating our own individual journeys.
