The Stolen White Elephant is a short story by the renowned American author Mark Twain. The story follows the hilarious misadventures of a white elephant, which has been gifted by the King of Siam to the United States government. However, the elephant is stolen while being transported to its new home in New York City. The government officials responsible for the elephant's safekeeping are left in a state of panic, and they launch a frantic search for the missing animal. As the search progresses, the story takes several unexpected turns, with the elephant being passed from one person to another, each of whom has their own motives for keeping it. The story is filled with Twain's trademark wit and humor, as well as his insightful commentary on human nature and society.Despite its comedic tone, The Stolen White Elephant also touches on deeper themes such as the absurdity of bureaucracy, the corruption of power, and the folly of human greed. The story is a classic example of Twain's unique style of storytelling, which combines social commentary, satire, and humor to create a timeless work of literature.Never mind about that. I may, and I may not. We generally gather a pretty shrewd inkling of who our man is by the manner of his work and the size of the game he goes after. We are not dealing with a pickpocket or a hall thief now, make up your mind to that. This property was not 'lifted' by a novice. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
