Kit Harrington, by contrast, is a privileged young man adrift in his own emptiness. Angry at the Vietnam War, ashamed of past sins, and desperate to escape the draft, he flees across the Pacific - only to be shipwrecked by a typhoon. His near-death ordeal strips him of arrogance and delivers him, literally, into George's hands. The ocean had taken everything from him-and given him a second chance.
What begins as suspicion between them transforms into one of the most compelling male friendships in modern fiction. Two forgotten men - one abandoned by America, one running from it - learn trust, forgiveness, and purpose while surviving together on George's island.
