Starr of the Desert is a novel written by B. M. Bower. The story revolves around Starr, a young woman who lives in the desert. She is a skilled horse rider and her father is a wealthy rancher. However, her life takes a turn when her father dies and she is left to run the ranch on her own. Starr faces many challenges, including dealing with a group of rustlers who are stealing her cattle. She also has to navigate the complicated relationships with the men in her life, including her father's business partner and a handsome cowboy who catches her eye. As the story progresses, Starr learns to trust her instincts and becomes a strong leader for her ranch. She also learns the value of love and friendship, and ultimately finds happiness in her new life. Bower's writing style is engaging and descriptive, transporting the reader to the rugged and beautiful landscape of the desert. The novel is a classic Western tale with themes of love, loss, and perseverance.1917. With frontispiece by Monte Crews. Bower authored several Westerns including Cabin Fever and The Flying U Ranch. This book begins: Daffodils were selling at two bits a dozen in the flower stand beside the New Era Drug Store. Therefore Peter Stevenson knew that winter was over, and that the weather would probably settle. There would be the spring fogs, of course-and fog did not agree with Helen May since that last spell of grippe. Peter decided that he would stop and see the doctor again, and ask him what he thought of a bungalow out against the hills behind Hollywood; something cheap, of course-and within the five-cent limit on the street cars; something with a sleeping porch that opened upon a pleasanter outlook than your neighbor's back yard.
