The Star Rover is a novel by American author Jack London, first published in 1915. The story follows the life of a man named Darrell Standing, who is imprisoned in San Quentin State Prison in California. Standing is a former professor of psychology who has been sentenced to life in prison for murder. While in prison, Standing is subjected to brutal treatment and torture, including being strapped into a straitjacket and left in a dark cell for days on end. However, he discovers a way to escape his physical confinement by using his mind. Through a series of vivid and intense hallucinations, Standing is able to transport himself to past lives and experiences, including being a Viking warrior, an Englishman during the time of King Arthur, and a Native American shaman. As Standing delves deeper into his past lives, he begins to question the nature of reality and the meaning of life. He also becomes determined to use his newfound knowledge to help others, particularly his fellow prisoners who are suffering under the same brutal conditions. The Star Rover is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of identity, freedom, and the human spirit. It is considered one of Jack London's most important works and a classic of American literature.Surely, you don't think I'm holding out because I enjoy it? I managed to gasp, for at the moment Pie-Face Jones was forcing his foot into my back in order to cinch me tighter while I was trying with my muscles to steal slack. There is nothing to confess. Why, I'd cut off my right hand right now to be able to lead you to any dynamite. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
