One of 101 titles in the St. Joseph Picture Book Series, this book by beloved author Rev. Lawrence G. Lovasik, S.V.D. introduces Catholic children to Saint Peter and provides an explanation of this important Saint's life and mission.St. Peter the Apostle was one of Jesus' closest friends and one of the most important leaders in the early Church. Originally a fisherman named Simon, he met Jesus while working by the Sea of Galilee. Jesus called him to be one of His twelve apostles, saying He would make him a fisher of men. Jesus gave Simon the new name Peter, which means rock, because He knew Peter would have a strong role in building the Church.
Peter had a big heart and loved Jesus very much, but he was not perfect. At first, he was sometimes unsure or made mistakes. One time, Peter even denied knowing Jesus when he was afraid. But Jesus forgave him, and Peter became braver and more faithful than ever. This shows us that, even if we make mistakes, God can still use us for great things if we turn back to Him.
After Jesus returned to Heaven, Peter became the leader of the apostles. He traveled to many places, preaching about Jesus and helping people understand God's love. He helped guide the early Christians, teaching them how to live as followers of Jesus. Peter was the first pope, a leader in the Church, and his faith helped make Christianity strong.
