I onima koji nisu protagonisti neposredne nastave danas je jasna neophodnost napora na iznalayenju nacina da se ucenicima na svim nivoima ucenja ponude dodatna sredstva i umeca koriscenja engleskog jezika, posebno njegovog vokabulara, u najrazlicitije svrhe, koje su nesluceno brojne a najcesce zavise od rada na tekstu i koriscenja teksta. Upravo to stvara osecaj da knjiyevni tekstovi mogu da su od visestruke koristi, ali predstavlja i razlog i snayno opredeljenje za siroko shvatanje tog pojma, tako da osim uzoraka kvalitetne poezije i primera proznog stvaralastva on ukljuci i tekstove iz domena ne-umetnicke proze. Za englesku knjiyevnost danas je jasno da predstavlja bogatstvo koje pripada citavom svetu koji koristi taj jezik univerzalne komunikacije, pa u tom smislu odabrani tekstovi ilustruju ne samo kvalitet tog jezika kao stranog vec donose i znacajne elemente engleskog jezika koji je sredstvo proucavanja i snalayenja u velikom broju razlicitih oblasti. Ovakva shvatanja su osnov za postavljanje zadatka da se prouce mesto i uloga knjiyevnosti u nastavi engleskog jezika kao stranog, da se sagledaju najznacajnije osobenosti vokabulara engleskog jezika, i da se, konacno, stvori jedan izbor uzoraka knjiyevnog stvaralastva na kojima bi mogao da se pokaye znacaj knjiyevnosti u nastavi leksike i koji bi predstavljali izvor korisnih ideja pa i oslonac u radu neposrednim izvodjacima nastave, bez obzira na velicinu i profil njihovog prethodnog iskustva. This study appears as formulated by an interest in using literature i.e. samples of literature creation in that part of teaching which is devoted to learning, revising and developing vocabulary, as well as to using actively the richest possible vocabulary of English as a foreign, though increasingly global, language. Out of such practical interests are derived the following tasks for study: The place and role of literature at the present moment of teaching English as a foreign language; The most significant features of the vocabulary of English; Manners of obtaining samples of literary creation with the aim of securing a choice illustrating the importance of literature in teaching vocabulary, and representing a source of valuable ideas supporting a teacher's work. This broad scope of interests, the awareness of the growing importance of the vocabulary and morphology of English, an unprecedented mass of sources and materials treating these fields, the growing production of textbooks featuring achievements in internationally recognised applied linguistic research, the constant supply of new and ever richer and more attractive fruits of literary creation in English all over the world together with the existence of already classical and well-known literary values - impose and justify an exploratory approach relying on a modest portion of the vast existing abundance of sources.
