Some losses don't have words. This book finds them.
When Abby died, her family walked through the unthinkable: the hospital, the funeral home, the casket, the burial, the long days of missing her. And through it all, they discovered that reminders of Abby, and the love that outlasts loss, kept appearing in the most unexpected places.
Written by Abby's mother, Splashes of Red gives grieving families honest language, real comfort, and the hope that not only can they survive the unthinkable, they can find joy again.
Unlike most children's books about death, Splashes of Red does not use soft language or metaphor. It walks children and families through the entire experience of loss: the emergency response, the hospital, the funeral home, the viewing, the burial, the grief counselor visit, and the slow, tender return of everyday joy. It also gives children a framework for healing and includes four Scripture passages for families to pray together.
A hidden heart appears on every page, and a QR code in the back matter leads families to a resource page with the heart locations and additional grief support materials.
For grieving families, pastors, counselors, children's hospitals, funeral directors, and anyone who wants to give a family in pain something truly useful.
Content Advisory: This book addresses child death, funeral, burial, and grief. Appropriate for grieving families and counseling contexts.
