Speeches in the House of Commons upon the Equalization of the Weights and Measures of Great Britain: With Notes, Observations, Etc. is a book written by John Riggs Miller in 1790. The book contains a collection of speeches made in the House of Commons regarding the standardization of weights and measures in Great Britain. The speeches were made by various members of Parliament and cover topics such as the history of weights and measures in Britain, the need for standardization, and the potential benefits of a uniform system. In addition to the speeches, the book includes notes and observations by Miller, who was a Member of Parliament himself. These notes provide context and additional information about the debates and discussions surrounding the issue of standardization. The book is an important historical document, as it sheds light on a significant moment in British history when the country was transitioning from a patchwork of different weights and measures to a standardized system. It also provides insight into the political and social factors that influenced the decision to standardize, as well as the challenges and controversies that arose during the process. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
