Los cuatro vivientes -o el tetramorfo-, son los roles de la Divinidad en la Historia de la Salvación.
Tanto en la profecÃa de Ezequiel, como en el libro del Apocalipsis según Juan podemos ver la descripción de estas cuatro figuras de lo que los hagiógrafos, -los escritores sagrados-, describen como seres con rostros de hombre, buey, león y águila. Seres que son presentados en cercana relación con Dios y que han generado en algún punto cierta sensación de cosa oculta y a la vez -quizás-, de las visiones más extrañas e inquietantes de la Biblia.

Todo en la Biblia tiene su sentido, su motivo de ser, y para su explicación es necesario analizar la historia de la Salvación, su desarrollo, y cómo Dios interviene en la historia de la humanidad en su deseo de rescatarla de las manos del enemigo, -del Satán-, para llevarla a la redención.
Estos seres vivientes son clave, reflejo y metáfora de esa tarea a la que Dios se aboca, y expresan los mecanismos, y tal vez sistemas utilizados para ese fin al interactuar en el desarrollo de la vida humana desde sus albores hasta el fin de los tiempos. Estos mecanismos, -podrÃamos decir-, son lo que llamamos los roles de la divinidad en la historia de la salvación. Roles, facetas, funciones que interpreta Dios y asume a través del Verbo para la tarea trascendental.
