Cuando se nace en una tierra donde tus antepasados han vivido cientos de años en lugares llamados: Aldurfe, Regulfe, Eimer, Hermunde, Tor, Gueimonde, Baltar, Recesende, Espasande, Gundriz, Reimóndez, Froián, Tuimil, Reriz, GuntÃn... Cuando los nombres de tus familiares son: Argimiro, Elvira, Froilán, Beltrán, Berta, Ramiro, Sisnando, Gonzalo, Rodrigo, Fernando, Gumersindo, Alfonso, Baldomero, Guiomar... y sus apellidos los patronÃmicos derivados de éstos con la terminación del genitivo visigodo ez. Si al caminar por la campiña nos dirigimos al monte en mano común de la parroquia, si observamos los usos y costumbres, entonces investigar quiénes fueron y quiénes son los suevos ─y los godos─ constituye parte del proceso de autoconocimiento. Vivir conforme al espÃritu suévico lo denominamos suevicidad; respiramos y caminamos suévicamente, términos que aun no recoge la RAE, lo cual es algo raro teniendo en cuenta que incluye términos como puntocom y videojugador que se refieren a actividades que no llevan entre nosotros ni un siglo cuando los suevos y los visigodos llevamos más de 1.500 años.
Los objetivos que nos proponemos en este libro son arduos, seguramente hasta la fecha no se ha ensayado una investigación como la que en estas páginas iniciamos. Este no es un libro sobre la historia de los suevos, no reduce su ámbito a una reinterpretación de las fuentes ni a un análisis de la historiografÃa. Nuestro objetivo es conocer la vida de los suevos, no como meros objetos abstractos, sino como seres humanos que vivieron, lucharon y murieron conforme a unas certidumbres y creencias; en definitiva reconstruir el espÃritu suevo, su etnicidad. Analizaremos las fuentes y las conclusiones que han extraÃdo los investigadores que se han interesado por nuestros antepasados. La historia de los suevos ha sido escrita por sus adversarios, por lo que es de esperar que estos autores no empleen una metodologÃa neutra, respetuosa con los datos en sÃ. Por nuestra parte, nuestro interés en recuperar el espÃritu suevo es genealógico y antiimperialista, como hombres y mujeres que descendemos del pueblo suevo necesitamos revitalizar su legado. Nuestra investigación partirá de un conjunto mÃnimo de presupuestos filosóficos que expondremos. Muchos de los estudiosos que se han acercado a los suevos parten de prejuicios religiosos (cristianos) o culturales (romanistas) o regionalistas (ven a los suevos como algo foráneo o extranjero) o nacionalistas (consideran lo suevo como propio y exclusivo). Nuestra perspectiva será raciovitalista, genealógica y laica. La historia ha sido utilizada con frecuencia por los estados para crear una ideologÃa polÃtica a conveniencia. La España católica no fue una excepción. Los suevos fueron vistos por los historiadores al servicio del estado como algo irrelevante en el mejor de los casos o como unos bárbaros y crueles paganos. Como ejemplo, Ricardo Carnero en su Historia de España de 1942 nos dice que los suevos solo fueron unos invasores bárbaros y valora la aportación de este pueblo de esta guisa: la influencia germánica en la civilización española fue de poca importancia. El espÃritu español repudió, afortunadamente, las instituciones religiosas, polÃticas y sociales del invasor.
Los estudios genéticos de Family Tree DNA muestran que un 15 % de la población española presenta el haplogrupo I del cromosoma Y, como descendientes de suevos y visigodos.
Este libro muestra la vigencia del espÃritu suevo en las costumbres y tradiciones de España y Portugal.
