Los sentidos de la distorsión explora momentos cruciales de la producción artÃstica del siglo xx latinoamericano desde la lógica de la inestabilidad que define al barroco del siglo xvii. Desde el perspectivismo vertiginoso de Cervantes y los retruécanos exasperados de Quevedo a los universos plásticos de Borges y Xul Solar, o desde la sintaxis perversa de Góngora a las metamorfosis autoflagelantes de Severo Sarduy o Ana Mendieta, Baler se aparta de las consabidas nociones de exceso y transculturación y ensaya una evaluación epistemológica del impacto histórico del neobarroco latinoamericano en el contexto general de la modernidad.
Pablo Baler es profesor de literatura latinoamericana en la Universidad Estatal de California, Los Angeles, e International Research Fellow del Centro de Investigación sobre el Arte de la Universidad de Birmingham. También narrador, es el autor de la novela Circa (1999) y del volumen de relatos La burocracia mandarina (2013). Además de Los sentidos de la distorsión (2008), editó la antologÃa The Next Thing: Art in the Twenty-First Century (2013). En la actualidad trabaja en una serie de ensayos donde explora las vacilantes tensiones entre ética e imaginación.
