El señorÃo de los incas es la segunda parte de la Crónica del Perú, de Pedro Cieza de León, y trata sobre la historia de los Incas y las dinastÃas del Antiguo Perú. Fue descubierta en la Biblioteca de El Escorial por el historiador peruano Manuel González de La Rosa, quien preparó una edición para publicarla en Londres, en 1873. Esta no vio la luz por razones económicas.
En 1880, Marcos Jiménez de la Espada, publicó finalmente la obra, con el tÃtulo de Segunda parte de la crónica del Perú, que trata del señorÃo de los incas yupanquis y de sus grandes hechos y gobernación (actualmente conocida como El SeñorÃo de los Incas).
El señorÃo de los Incas narra los sucesos históricos que acontecieron durante el reinado de los reyes incas (ingas yupangues o incas yupanquis), que el autor recogió en boca de los mismos habitantes del imperio incaico, entre nobles u orejones, amautas o maestros, quipucamayocs y curacas.
Se trata, en rigor, de la primera historia integral del Tahuantinsuyo, ya que los cronistas que precedieron a Cieza se habÃan limitado a recoger escasos y dispersos datos sobre los incas, concentrándose más que nada en los hechos de los primeros conquistadores españoles. La crÃtica histórica ha sido unánime al considerarla como una obra fundamental para el estudio de la historia inca.
Pedro Cieza empieza su relato narrando la barbarie que reinaba antes de los incas en el territorio del Perú. Relata también la leyenda de Wiracocha (Ticiviracoche) y de los hermanos Ayar; y la fundación del Cuzco por Manco Cápac. Luego se extiende en la historia de los reyes incas:

Pedro Cieza de León, natural de Llerena (España), llegó cuando aún era muy joven a América, hacia 1535. Participó como soldado en la conquista de los actuales territorios de Colombia y Ecuador, antes de arribar al Perú en 1547.
Cieza nos cuenta que, en sus ratos libres, escribÃa sobre todo lo que veÃa y escuchaba, referente a las costumbres, las tradiciones, la geografÃa y los sucesos históricos. Enterado el pacificador Pedro de la Gasca de su trabajo, recibió apoyo oficial para que pudiera culminar su extensa crónica, cuya publicación planeó hacer en cuatro partes, siendo el primer proyecto de una Historia general del Perú.
La primera parte, dedicada a la descripción geográfica y la fundación de ciudades, fue publicada en Sevilla, en 1553. Pedro Cieza falleció poco después, el 2 de julio de 1554, y el resto de su copiosa obra permaneció inédita e incluso extraviada.
