Este libro examina la trama invisible de la legitimidad cultural en Canarias: cómo se construye, quién la administra y qué tensiones emergen cuando la periferia intenta definirse frente a los centros de poder. A través de una reflexión que combina autobiografÃa intelectual, genealogÃa cultural y análisis histórico, se indagan los gestos, rituales y dispositivos educativos que han moldeado la idea misma de cultura en las islas.
El texto aborda la confusión entre escritores y gestores, la burocratización de la vida cultural y la fragilidad de los cánones insulares, siempre expuestos a disputas, silencios y apropiaciones. En este marco se sitúa el perfil de Carlos Gaviño, autor de obra breve pero editor minucioso, cuya trayectoria -desde el blog Lope de Clavijo hasta su participación en el CÃrculo de Bellas Artes- permite leer las tensiones entre vocación literaria, prestigio institucional y deseo de permanencia.
El libro revisa también el legado de Domingo Pérez Minik, las fracturas abiertas tras su muerte, la función de la Escuela de Arte y Oficios, el papel de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Miguel Arcángel y la distancia entre la cultura literaria real -hecha de libros, lectores y esfuerzos individuales- y el canon universitario que pretende representarla.
En conjunto, esta obra propone una mirada crÃtica y serena sobre la periferia como construcción histórica, la belleza como criterio inestable y la experiencia personal del autor en un mundo cultural donde conviven vocación, poder y sombra.
