La obra comienza estableciendo los fundamentos bÃblicos de la Santa Cena, mostrando su relación con la Pascua del Antiguo Testamento. A partir de ahÃ, desarrolla la institución de la Cena del Señor, su práctica en la iglesia primitiva y el profundo significado espiritual del pan y de la copa como sÃmbolos del cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo.
El manual profundiza en las principales enseñanzas doctrinales relacionadas con la Santa Cena: su carácter de memorial, comunión y proclamación; el significado del Nuevo Pacto establecido por la sangre de Cristo; y la necesidad de discernir correctamente el cuerpo del Señor al participar de la Mesa.
Asimismo, aborda de manera pastoral la preparación espiritual necesaria para participar dignamente de la Cena del Señor, tratando temas como el examen personal, el arrepentimiento, la reconciliación y el contexto histórico de 1 Corintios 11.
La obra también incluye un análisis equilibrado de las principales posiciones históricas dentro del cristianismo acerca de la presencia de Cristo en la Santa Cena, examinando las perspectivas católica romana, ortodoxa, luterana, reformada y memorialista. Cada postura es presentada de manera clara y comprensible, permitiendo al lector conocer el desarrollo histórico de estas doctrinas y evaluarlas a la luz de las Escrituras.
Además, el manual trata cuestiones prácticas que frecuentemente generan dudas en las iglesias, como el uso de pan con o sin levadura, el vino fermentado o el zumo de uva, quiénes deben participar de la Cena y cuál es la manera adecuada de administrarla dentro de la congregación.
