El viaje comienza en el año 486, cuando Clodoveo I, rey de los francos, conquistó Soissons, marcando el fin de la dominación romana en la región y el inicio del surgimiento del reino franco. Cada batalla cobra vida a través de su contexto histórico: los conflictos polÃticos, las tensiones culturales y los intereses económicos que llevaron a estos enfrentamientos. Nos encontramos con lÃderes que dejaron una huella indeleble, desde el carismático Napoleón Bonaparte hasta los astutos estrategas de la Francia moderna, como Vo Nguyen Giap en Dien Bien Phu.
El libro nos lleva a las tierras ensangrentadas de Poitiers (732), donde Carlos Martel detuvo el avance musulmán hacia Europa occidental, un enfrentamiento que definió la identidad cultural de Francia y su papel en la cristiandad medieval.
