El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, often shortened to Don Quixote, is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615, Don Quixote is considered one of the most influential works of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon.
The story follows Alonso Quixano, a nobleman from La Mancha, who, after reading many chivalric romances, decides to set out to revive chivalry, undo wrongs, and bring justice to the world, under the name Don Quixote. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire, who often uses a unique brand of earthy wit in dealing with Don Quixote's rhetorical orations and tendencies to see what he wants to see. Don Quixote is a satire of the chivalric romances of the time and a profound exploration of human nature.
