La IlÃada es el poema más antiguo de la literatura occidental y está considerada una de las grandes obras de nuestra tradición. Esta epopeya griega que, como la Odisea, ha sido atribuida a Homero, es un canto al glorioso y trágico desenlace de la guerra de Troya. En la antigüedad se consideraba que este poema se basaba en la historia real y los personajes que aparecÃan en él eran un modelo de comportamiento y heroÃsmo. Los acontecimientos que narra tienen lugar en el transcurso de los últimos cincuenta y un dÃas de un conflicto que duró diez largos años, y se desarrollan en torno a la figura del héroe heleno Aquiles, «el de los pies ligeros . A lo largo de los más de quince mil versos de la obra, Homero evoca conceptos centrales en la cultura griega antigua, como el regreso, la gloria, el respeto, la ira y el destino. The Iliad is the oldest poem in Western literature and is considered one of the great works of our tradition. This Greek epic which, like the Odyssey, has been attributed to Homer, is a hymn to the glorious and tragic outcome of the Trojan War. In antiquity, this poem was believed to be based on real history and the characters appearing in it were seen as models of behavior and heroism. The events it narrates take place over the course of the final fifty-one days of a conflict that lasted ten long years and revolve around the figure of the Hellenic hero Achilles, the swift-footed one. Throughout the work's more than fifteen thousand verses, Homer evokes concepts as central to ancient Greek culture as return, glory, respect, wrath, and fate. The introduction and notes accompanying the translation by writer and translator Fernando Gutiérrez were written by fellow translator and professor Pere Güell.
