Este volumen se centra en los siglos XVIII y XIX, un periodo de transformación radical en la forma de habitar Europa. El diseño de interiores evoluciona desde el lujo aristocrático del Antiguo Régimen hacia una concepción más funcional, racional y técnica del espacio, impulsada por los cambios sociales, económicos e industriales. El mueble deja de ser únicamente un objeto decorativo para convertirse en un elemento estructural del proyecto interior, integrado en una lógica espacial coherente.
El siglo XVIII se analiza a través de los grandes estilos europeos como el Rococó y el Neoclasicismo, estudiando el mueble francés, inglés, alemán e italiano como expresión de poder, representación y refinamiento. Mesas, sillas, cómodas, escritorios y piezas ornamentales se abordan desde una perspectiva de diseño de interiores histórico, prestando especial atención a los materiales -maderas nobles, lacas, bronces y porcelanas- y a las técnicas artesanales que definen la cultura material del periodo.
El siglo XIX marca el inicio del diseño moderno del mueble. La Revolución Industrial, la aparición de la burguesÃa y los nuevos sistemas de producción transforman profundamente el mobiliario y el interiorismo. El libro analiza el Estilo Imperio, el Romanticismo, el Historicismo y la progresiva transición hacia la producción en serie, sentando las bases del interiorismo funcional y del pensamiento proyectual aplicado al espacio interior.
Este volumen establece las bases teóricas y formales que conducen al interiorismo moderno, anticipando el pensamiento racional que culminará en la Bauhaus y en el diseño del siglo XX. La relación entre historia del mueble, historia del diseño de interiores y arquitectura europea se analiza como un sistema integrado, clave para comprender el diseño contemporáneo del espacio interior.
