English Translation:David Hollowell (b. 1951, Hornell, NY) lives and works in Woodland, California. He received his BFA from Ithaca College and MFA from Yale University. From 1984 to 2013 he taught drawing and painting at UC Davis, following earlier posts at Gustavus Adolphus College, Fontbonne College, and Washington University, St. Louis. Hollowell is known for large-scale pointillist paintings that merge classical composition with contemporary figures and atmospheres. Through layered perspective and subtle self-insertion, his work blurs the boundaries between past and present, stillness and motion, and painted and lived space.
