En GeologÃa de la libertad, Manuel Rincón sale de San Lorenzo del Escorial sobre Casiopeia con una regla sencilla: evitar las grandes carreteras y viajar sin GPS. Lo que comienza como un recorrido en moto por España, Portugal y Francia acaba convirtiéndose en otra cosa: una exploración de la tierra, de quienes la habitan y de sà mismo.
Durante el viaje atraviesa montañas, bosques, tormentas, niebla, rÃos, pueblos casi vacÃos y carreteras olvidadas. Duerme al aire libre, aprende a vivir mojado, siente el viento golpear el casco, comparte mesa con desconocidos y descubre que cada territorio contiene muchas historias superpuestas.
Poco a poco aprende a leer.
Primero, la carretera: el asfalto, las curvas, las huellas, el peligro, la necesidad de mirar hacia donde quiere ir.
Después, la tierra: granitos, pizarras y calizas; antiguos glaciares, mares desaparecidos, volcanes extinguidos y montañas que todavÃa conservan escrito el tiempo en sus formas.
Más tarde, la vida que crece sobre ella: bosques, animales, cultivos, pastores, pueblos, rÃos y seres humanos que han aprendido durante generaciones a habitar un lugar.
Y finalmente se lee a sà mismo.
Porque mientras cambia el paisaje, también cambia la pregunta que acompaña el viaje: qué significa ser libre?
Ser libre es poder elegir cualquier camino? No depender de nadie? Marcharse? Controlar lo que ocurre? O puede existir otra libertad, menos espectacular y más profunda, que aparece cuando dejamos de enfrentarnos continuamente con la realidad?
A través del miedo en una curva, del viento que obliga a aflojar las manos, de una tormenta contemplada bajo un árbol, de un pueblo que abre un lugar en su mesa o de una montaña que estuvo alguna vez bajo el mar, el viaje va desmontando certezas.
GeologÃa de la libertad combina relato de viajes, naturaleza, geologÃa, filosofÃa y experiencia personal en una escritura cercana y sensorial. No es una guÃa de carreteras ni un tratado filosófico. Es la historia de alguien que sale buscando mundo y descubre que comprenderlo exige también aprender a comprenderse.
La vida es un viaje. Y quizá la libertad no consista en no tener camino, sino en descubrir nuestra relación con él.
