El revisionismo es una cuestión de método, no de ideologÃa.
Defiende, para toda investigación, el regreso al punto de partida, el examen seguido de un nuevo examen, la relectura y la reescritura, la evaluación seguida de una nueva evaluación, la reorientación, la revisión, la refundición; es, en espÃritu, lo contrario de la ideologÃa. No niega, sino que pretende afirmar con mayor precisión. Los revisionistas no son negacionistas o negacionistas; se esfuerzan por buscar y encontrar donde, al parecer, ya no habÃa nada que buscar o encontrar.
El revisionismo puede aplicarse a cien actividades cotidianas y a cien ámbitos de investigación histórica, cientÃfica o literaria. No cuestiona necesariamente las ideas establecidas, pero a menudo conduce a matizarlas. Trata de separar lo verdadero de lo falso. La historia es, por su propia naturaleza, revisionista; la ideologÃa es su enemiga. Como la ideologÃa nunca es más fuerte que en tiempos de guerra o de conflicto, y como entonces fabrica falsedades en profusión para las necesidades de su propaganda, el historiador se verá llevado, en estas circunstancias, a redoblar su vigilancia: Sin duda se dará cuenta de que, cuando una guerra ha causado decenas de millones de vÃctimas, la primera vÃctima habrá sido la verdad verificable: una verdad que hay que buscar y restablecer.
La historia oficial de la Segunda Guerra Mundial contiene un poco de verdad combinada con mucha falsedad.
A riesgo de ser malinterpretado por algunos, dedico este libro a aquellos, entre los sangrientos vencedores de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que, como Churchill, Eisenhower o de Gaulle, se negaron, tanto durante la contienda como después, a avalar, aunque sólo fuera con una palabra, la atroz, grotesca e insolente impostura del supuesto genocidio de los judÃos y de las supuestas cámaras de gas nazis.
Por último, espero que este libro sea el signo de una memoria no selectiva ni tribal, sino universal, sin exclusividad alguna: in memoriam omnium. Que se lea también como un homenaje a los sufrimientos reales de todas las vÃctimas de la guerra de 1939-1945, tanto si estas vÃctimas pertenecÃan a los vencedores, a los que alabamos, como a los vencidos, a los que no hemos cesado, desde hace casi medio siglo, de humillar y ofender!
