Esta investigación examina la consolidación institucional del Reino Antiguo de Egipto, convencionalmente situado entre las dinastÃas III y VI, sin perder de vista los debates sobre cronologÃa absoluta y lÃmites de periodización. La hipótesis central sostiene que la centralidad ideológica del faraón no equivale a la existencia de un aparato estatal uniforme y omnipotente: la autoridad efectiva dependió de la coordinación entre corte, funcionarios provinciales, dominios, fundaciones de culto, sistemas de trabajo, redes de asentamiento y prácticas documentales. El estudio combina lectura crÃtica de fuentes primarias, arqueologÃa, papirologÃa, historia institucional y aportes cronológicos y ambientales recientes. Se distingue de manera sistemática entre las representaciones ideológicas de la realeza y los mecanismos administrativos mediante los cuales se movilizaron recursos, cargos, órdenes y obligaciones rituales. De forma limitada, se emplea además la noción de regla compilada para describir formas institucionales estabilizadas - titulaturas, sellos, fórmulas documentales y secuencias rituales - capaces de reproducir relaciones de autoridad sin reconstruir en cada uso la totalidad de su justificación. El Reino Antiguo aparece asà como una formación polÃtica dinámica, sostenida por la interacción entre ideologÃa, administración, economÃa, culto, territorio y procedimientos formalizados.
