ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Stories at the edge of the abyss: the nearly complete short works of Horacio Castellanos Moya.
This is a solid book of stories; Moya indeed makes us feel the anguish of the last storm, but also the satisfaction of knowing that the effort invested is worthwhile. Ernesto Calabuig, El Cultural
With the Anguish of the Past Storm is a collection of twenty-two stories written between 1987 and 2007. Together, they showcase Horacio Castellanos Moya's singular talent for creating characters and settings that touch readers' hearts with their artful dialogue. The protagonists of these stories are fugitives whose only and inseparable companion is fear. After witnessing life-changing violence, they are rootless, doomed to a terrible existence with no end in sight. Some of the stories have their start in war, others in exile, and many in complicated romantic relationships, but all are governed by an overriding emotion: loneliness or grief. In these stories at the edge of the abyss, erotism, brothels and alcohol offer a temporary balm or the possibility of redemption for characters trapped in terrifying realities.
