ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
When walls surround us, the adventure of a lifetime may be finding a way through them. Murakami returns to the novel after Killing Commendatore.
Warning: Murakami, like the Beatles, is addictive. Rodrigo Fresán, El PaÃs
Murakami deserves the Nobel Prize. Rafael Narbona, El Cultural (El Mundo) Murakami is the best living writer. Pablo d'Ors, ABC Cultural Reading Murakami is a transformative experience. It is entering a forest, descending into a well, wandering through a dream. Antonio Lozano, La VanguardiaThe young protagonist of this novel has no idea that the girl he has fallen in love with is about to disappear from his life. They met during a competition among students from different schools and cannot see each other very often. During their meetings, sitting beneath a park tree or walking along a riverbank, the young woman begins telling him about a strange walled city that seems to exist in another world. Little by little, she confides her unsettling feeling that her true self resides within that mysterious city.
Then, as autumn arrives, the protagonist receives a letter from her that may be a farewell, plunging him into deep sadness. Years will pass before he can glimpse any possibility of seeing her again.
And yet, that city, exactly as she described it, exists. For anything is possible in this astonishing universe where reality, identity, dreams, and shadows shift and slip beyond the rigid limits of logic.
