De las primeras misas ricoteras a las últimas apariciones de Sumo sobre el escenario, Cemento vio despegar a los grupos sustanciales del rock argentino de los últimos treinta años. Allí, en ese boliche del barrio de Constitución, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota presentaron Gulp!, Luca Prodan y los suyos filmaron todos sus videoclips, los Ratones Paranoicos registraron un DVD, Bersuit Vergarabat se probó los pijamas, La Renga y Divididos actuaron a beneficio de un comedor infantil, Los Piojos regalaron sidra y pan dulce para una fecha navideña, Hermética le dio la bienvenida a Ácido Argentino, Catupecu Machu, Los Violadores y Todos Tus Muertos grabaron discos en vivo de lo más crudos, Flema despidió a Ricky Espinosa y Babasónicos mostró temas de Jessico, entre otros hitos.
Refugio del punk, el heavy metal y de las mil variantes del rock, acompañó al crecimiento de Los Brujos, La Portuaria, Los Rodríguez, Viejas Locas, Fun People, Almafuerte, Malón y A.N.I.M.A.L. durante la década de los '90, además de recibir a leyendas internacionales como King Diamond, Misfits, Buzzcocks, Lee Ranaldo, Marky Ramone y Queens Of The Stone Age. Grupos consagrados como Las Pelotas, La Vela Puerca, No Te Va Gustar, Fabulosos Cadillacs, Carajo, Massacre, El Otro Yo y Miranda! también dejaron su estela entre esas paredes. Pero al mismo tiempo, este local abierto por Omar Chabán y Katja Alemann en 1985 fue cuna del teatro under y los espectáculos más bizarros que pudieran encontrarse en Buenos Aires. Por todas estas historias, recopiladas por primera vez en un libro, Cemento se ganó el título indiscutido de El semillero del rock.
Nicolás Igarzábal nació en Buenos Aires en 1985. Es licenciado en periodismo, docente, corrector y productor. Escribió en el Suplemento Sí!, del diario Clarín, revista Ñ, Rolling Stone, La Mano, Playboy y el portal de La Viola. Editó los libros Cemento, el semillero del rock (2015), Más o menos bien: el indie argentino en el rock post-Cromañón (2018). Como poeta publicó Rutina caracol (2011), Mi ansiedad es un perro pekinés (2012) y 20 poemas, 20 colectivos (2014), además de participar de las antologías Esto pasa: Poesía en Buenos Aires (2015) y Poetas al acecho (2019). Actualmente escribe en la revista Viva y en Clarín Espectáculos, es profesor en la Universidad Abierta Interamericana (UAI), y crea contenido audiovisual para Instagram y You Tube (@nicolasigarzabal).
