The Sorrows of Satan is a novel written by Marie Corelli, first published in 1895. The book tells the story of a struggling writer named Geoffrey Tempest who makes a deal with the devil, known as Prince Lucio Ravenna. In exchange for wealth and success, Tempest agrees to serve the devil and carry out his bidding. As Tempest's fame and fortune grow, he becomes increasingly disillusioned with his life and the people around him. He realizes that the cost of his success is too high and that he has sold his soul to the devil. Throughout the novel, Corelli explores themes of morality, temptation, and the consequences of greed. She also critiques the societal values of the Victorian era, which placed a high value on wealth and material success. The Sorrows of Satan was a popular and controversial novel in its time, and it continues to be read and studied today as a classic example of Victorian literature.1896.
