Sophion(TM), Uncle Humph(TM) and The Fourth Act of Ineffable Light(TM)
What helps us keep going when even doing good has made us weary?
Jesse the Chief Steward(TM) of the Mysteries of Community has spent years feeding creatures. Clothing creatures. Welcoming creatures. Healing creatures. Preparing creatures for hopeful work.
And there are still so many creatures left to help.
One evening, with his heart troubled by the difficult road ahead, Jesse climbs a high hill with three friends and makes one simple request:
Stay awake with me.
They try.
They fall asleep.
Because sometimes even good friends are very tired.
Then two ancient eagles arrive carrying a Special Box of Ineffable Light(TM)-a gift meant to help Jesse remember. Not merely who he has become, but who he was always meant to be.
When the box opens, light dances across the hill. Stars appear in daylight. Jesse catches a glimpse of himself in a form his friends have never seen before. And the second star to the right shines brightly overhead-not showing Jesse a way to escape his troubles, but encouraging him to return more deeply to the work of Mercy.
The Fourth Act of Ineffable Light(TM) is a luminous story about friendship, weariness, encouragement, purpose, and remembering ourselves when the road ahead becomes difficult. It reminds us that friends cannot always solve our troubles-and may occasionally fall asleep-but encouragement can help us rediscover the strength to continue.
Like every book in The Mabuhay Stories(TM), this tale invites readers to read aloud, illuminate their own lifelong edition, share the story together-and, if they wish, sing along with the 45-second Melody of Grace and Mercy and Peace, Mercy Has No End.
Because sometimes we don't need another destination.
We need to remember WHY we are here.
And then walk back down the mountain together.
Mabuhay!
