Songs Of The South: Choice Selections From Southern Poets From Colonial Times To The Present Day is a collection of poems compiled by Jennie Thornley Clarke. The book features a wide range of poets from the southern region of the United States, including well-known figures such as Edgar Allan Poe, Langston Hughes, and Maya Angelou, as well as lesser-known poets. The poems in this collection cover a variety of themes, including love, nature, war, and social justice. The book is organized chronologically, starting with colonial-era poets such as Anne Bradstreet and Phillis Wheatley, and ending with contemporary poets such as Natasha Trethewey and Jericho Brown. The poems are accompanied by brief biographical sketches of each poet, providing context for their work. Overall, Songs Of The South is a comprehensive and diverse collection of southern poetry that celebrates the rich literary tradition of the region. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
