Songs, Ballads and Stories by William Allingham is a collection of poems, songs, and short stories written by the Irish poet and writer William Allingham. The book was first published in 1877 and contains a range of work from throughout Allingham's career. The collection includes a variety of styles and themes, including romantic ballads, humorous poems, and folk songs. Many of the pieces reflect Allingham's love of nature and his appreciation for the beauty of the Irish countryside. One of the most famous pieces in the collection is the poem The Fairies, which describes the magical world of fairies and their mischievous antics. Other notable works include the ballad The Winding Banks of Erne, which tells the story of a young couple's tragic love affair, and the humorous poem Up the airy mountain, which pokes fun at the idea of climbing to the top of a mountain to find a pot of gold. Overall, Songs, Ballads and Stories by William Allingham is a rich and varied collection of work from one of Ireland's most beloved poets and writers. It offers a glimpse into the world of 19th-century Ireland and the unique literary tradition that emerged from this time and place. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
