Some Account of the Oxford University Press, 1468-1926 offers a comprehensive and authoritative overview of the evolution of one of the world's most prestigious academic institutions. This historical record details the development of the Press from its earliest days in the late fifteenth century through its expansion into a global leader in scholarly and educational publishing by the early twentieth century.
The narrative explores the Press's dual role as both a local institution within the University of Oxford and an international force in the dissemination of knowledge. Readers will find insights into the technical advancements in printing, the establishment of the Clarendon Press, and the administrative milestones that shaped its legacy. The book highlights the Press's commitment to excellence in typography and its contributions to various fields of study, including the production of monumental works like the Oxford English Dictionary.
Written by the institution itself, this account serves as a vital resource for bibliophiles, historians, and those interested in the history of the book. It captures a unique perspective on the intersection of academic rigor and industrial progress, documenting how a small university printing house transformed into a cornerstone of the global literary landscape.
